TOR Programme

TOR Development Programme - An Outline

Taking place in 2008, TOR was a six month development programme for teams made up of young people and creative practitioners working together as equal partners. TOR allowed ten teams and a total of 32 participants to explore their ideas and ambitions. We wanted teams to develop their confidence and communication skills; to share best practice and network and to develop their practical skills by creating their own digital media project.

The resulting projects are outlined in our TOR Publication - click here to download a copy. If you would like a printed copy that includes a DVD of all the films produced, please email us.

Three young people supported by Interactive Media Centre were commissioned to document the TOR programme. You can watch their documentary on the DVD included with the TOR publication. This was an internship project for University of Bath Digital Media Arts students.

Who TOR is for:

  • TOR was designed to appeal to creative professionals who are committed to working with young people as part of their long-term career plan and
  • Young people who are interested in developing their skills and creative ideas through digital media, and want to increase the responsibility they have for a project.

TOR aimed to:

  • Develop young people's confidence, team working, direction, creativity, flexibility, communication, aspirations, media literacy, project management and technical skills;
  • Develop creative professionals' skill level, confidence, coaching skills, direction, communication and project management, and create time to reflect on personal goals and share best practice.

Each team benefited from the support of a coach whose role was similar to that of a facilitator, helping team members to work together in partnership, to communicate effectively, to realise their ideas and to examine their team-working skills and learning styles.

This project was supported by South West Screen with National Lottery funding on behalf of the UK Film Council through RIFE; and by RiO and Arts Council England with funding from the Department for Children, Schools and Families.
