Interactive Commission - Call for Proposals

In association with BBC Big Screens and Create Studios we are inviting proposals from organisations and individuals based in the South West region for the production of an interactive content commission to be launched on the new BBC Big Screen in Swindon, and to potentially tour other Big Screens and public sites.

This commission requires community involvement in development and production of content. The successful applicant will work in partnership with Create Studios and local communities in Swindon.

The BBC operated Big Screens are a public service project and run on a not-for-profit basis. Public access to view the screens is always free, and the screens do not run commercial advertisements.

What are we looking for?

We are seeking proposals for an interactive content commission that is specifically designed for use on a Big Screen in an outdoor public space. Content should be:

• Simple
• Accessible
• Interactive
• Participatory
• Engaging

We're interested in proposals that include creative and practical plans for how you will engage local communities in the development and production of the content.

One new work will be commissioned. There is a fixed fee available of up to £8,000 including VAT. The fee includes all costs associated with delivering the commission including research and development, production, testing any mobile/external hardware if required, software licences and necessary adjustments. The fee will be paid in instalments, linked to milestones in the project. South West Screen will own all rights to the interactive content produced.

The completed commission needs to be delivered to South West Screen on or before 30 April 2009. Within this time period we will allocate up to six weeks for testing the content and subsequent adjustment.

We will prioritise proposals from organisations and individuals based in the Swindon area.
